At the first meeting ever of the Brunswick Stewmaster's Association, held in Lawrenceville, Virginia, on July 28, 1998 the following Stewmasters adopted the ingredient list for a standard Brunswick Stew, a Special Brunswick Stew and Deluxe Brunswick Stew. They were: John D. Clary, John Clay, Jr., Jeff Daniel, Harold Gauldin, Palmer Green, Alvin Lucy and Hugh McAden, Jr..Plans were discussed to develop criteria for certifying Brunswick Stewmasters.
